Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

Enacted in 1966, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides the right to access records of all federal agencies in order to better understand, track and possibly object to the policy and actions of the government. The FOIA provides that individuals have the right to inspect and copy the contents of all papers, manuals, reports, legal opinions, policy statements and instructions an agency gives to its staff that may affect the public.
